Eero & Pauli @ YleX Uuden Musiikin Iltavuoro

Eero & Pauli @ YleX

Eero & Pauli @ YleX

Yesterday evening Eero and Pauli have been guests at YleX Uuden Musiikin Iltavuoro. The interview in audio can be found from here, and a summary of the interview below:

- they wanted to make before new album but the material they did sounded too electronic so Lauri made the album, and then afterwards they luckily got into the train camp where they made a more Rasmus-like music than the one that ended up on Lauri’s solo album; work with Desmond was a great experience and they have learned a lot from him, especially in making the lyrics, but Eero thinks that in their band is more important that they all 4 write and decide on everything for the new material; they would have liked to make everything themselves but did not really get with the tech part like mixing and such, that’s why they went to Martin to Stockholm; before touring was like partying until morning and jumping on the stage, which now changed to visiting also cities; Pauli tells that it rarely feels like a job when they leave to touring, but still they miss the families and it’s good to see everyone again after the tour ends; Eero tells reading a comment on YouTube on I’m a Mess that someone said they previously had dark music and now they are really happy ones.

Lauri & Aki @ Radio Rock

The second radio station where Aki and Lauri have been guests today was Radio Rock. You can find video interview in 3 parts on their website: 1, 2, 3.

- Lauri always wanted to have some normal career, but couldn’t make it more than just cut the stuff in his backyard last  year when he also cut his hands; the reason for the break they had was that when Lauri started to make some demos on laptop and they tried to make it with guitars it didn’t just made it how they wanted, and then last summer they went to Nosturi and started to make some new stuff; the break was approved by everyone, was Lauri’s idea but they was all supporting him, Aki thinks a break for a band that have been active for years it doesn’t make bad; during the gigs they more like do in free time sightseeing than drinking and stuff like before, Lauri adds that they did see many cities before but more like night life and in morning at 5 then ‘soundcheeeeck’; with the family also the touring goes like before, none of the family members join their touring, Aki adds that the tour bus not a place for kids; they keep in touch with family through Skype more than flying home once in a while.

Lauri & Aki @ YleX Radio

Lauri & Aki @ YleX Iltapäivä

Here you can find the audio interview from today’s YleX Iltapäivä. Summary of the new things can be find below, they just told the same thing as before too. Also there is a video below at the end of which you can find something funny with the guys!

-if they could compete in something it would be length, or for Lauri it would be something cooking competition; Aki tells that in F-f-f-falling video he even cried while playing the drums, Lauri adds that in studio he just puts up his legs on the table and does not much with alcohol-free gin; I’m a mess was the last song to be born before they have left to Sweden, Lauri even wrote part of the lyrics in the studio about the 2 months that have went by before leaving to studio; Lauri’s solo album influenced the new The Rasmus album that way that the songs hare born now more spontaneously than before; after the autumn tour in Finland they plan on more gigs in Europe and in even Japan.

Lauri Interview in Iltalehti

Lauri Iltalehti

Iltalehti has published an article/interview with Lauri in the paper version of the newspaper (it can also be bought online on lehtiluukku.fi). Translation of the article can be found below. Thanks to Sharazan for letting know about the article.

The Rasmus’ solist’ Lauri Ylönen’s new solo album New World has dark lyrics and has influences on 1990-years electro pop music.
-The Rasmus has a lot more minimalistic music. Minimalism has also come in my life in many other parts of my life, Ylönen tells.
The solo material has been born by accident when Lauri and Rasmus’ guitarist Pauli Rantasalmi has come together to make new music for the upcoming album of the band.
-I went to Pauli’s to Singapore for a holiday and to make lyrics, and Pauli inspired me in developing in things. But when we met to match the guitars and other sounds, the whole thing just didn’t work as a Rasmus style thing.

No risk

Ylönen is tensed about how the solo material is welcomed.
-It would be really great if the album would go gold. But I cannot say anything how it would go. It could be that way that the songs will be playing in the radio, but the album is not sold that good in the stores, Lauri wonders.
For Rasmus-fans, Lauri’s solo stuff could sound strange for the reason that it’s based on electro music and sounds.
-I’m satisfied that it sounds so much different from The Rasmus’ music. In a way I was afraid that it won’t be enough differences.
Lauri releases the album through his own record company, but he takes no pressure about the success.
-The album will not be in any ways economic crises to me. And I won’t be depressed if it won’t have success. I already started making new material and I believe that I will do also a second solo album.

Band stays

As for gigs, the autumn for Lauri Ylönen looks good. For summer the band has some festivals to do in Finland. During the autumn they do some club-touring.
-In addition to Finland it would great to go also in other Nordic countries and also to Central-Europe. As for the gig venues, they would be like few hundred people clubs (like 300), like ten times smaller than the ones where The Rasmus performs usually.
Lauri assured that in fact of his solo stuff The Rasmus will continue on their normal way.
-This summer we’ll start making new album, which would come out in my opinion in about a year.

Millions sold worldwide

In 1994 established The Rasmus grew into mega liked band after their Dead Letters album.
The album was released in 2003 and it was sold only in Finland in over 80.000 pieces. The two following albums, Hide from the Sun and Black Roses, also came to being gold in Finland.
Worldwide the sales of the band’ album are somewhere around 3.5 million pieces.
-For the release of the albums we made press conferences which were incredible especially in the Baltic countries and in South-America. There were hundreds of journalists, Lauri Ylönen tells.
As a marked way there should be plenty of time for the music itself and for making it.
-Sometimes during the promotion-tours we have been wondering with the guys when we will make finally to play.
-But it makes part of this job and it’s of course great that so many want to know us and our music, Lauri tells.

Lauri Interview in Metrolive

Picture: Marja Väänänen

MetroLive has published an article with Lauri. A part of it (or maybe the whole) has been posted on their site here; and if in the paper version more appears we’ll let you know. Also Iltalehti took over the article, saying the same, you can find it here. Below is the translation of the original Metrolive article. Thank you to Oana/PMMP&TheRasmus Forum for sharing.

To solo career left, The Rasmus’s Lauri Ylönen is a family man who still dares to dress up like international megastars. He’s posing in front of his bandmate taking pictures in strained trousers and without t-shirt with Lady Gaga styled metal cage on his head. Lauri has received so far more feedback on the pictures than on his music.
-I’ve always admired rockers who can perform at least half naked, but in front of the band performing shirtless would look funny. When I’ll get the chance to perform solo I will not anymore have shirt on me. For next I was thinking of taking pictures in which I pose without clothes, Lauri laughs.
Solo album was released earlier this week, but Ylönen found himself in front of a new challenge when he traveled to Singapore to write new material for the follow up album after Black Roses. The computer-made demos didn’t really ‘support’ the rough guitar sounds. From this came the idea to start a solo career, so he wouldn’t have to spoil the long Rasmus history by changing the music style dramatically.
-Yes I was a bit nervous to start calling the guys and telling them about starting a solo career because I didn’t wanted to offend anyone. If someone from the bandmates would have done something like this to me, it sure would have felt like shit.
Millions of albums sold Rasmus solist decided to make electro music, which he couldn’t tolerate at all before.
-I tried before to listen to house and trance, but I couldn’t just take it. I tried to like it, but I didn’t have the patience to wait for a tip to open in a minute.  Now I just enjoy that in the song there is a good bass sound.
Untypical for electro music, Ylönen made lyrics about quite heavy and tough topics.
-In one I handle anorexia. We’ve been talking with The Rasmus guys about the issue and an example for it can be found also in our close friend circle.
There were no songs left anymore in the drawer.
-It has that good old feeling, that every song has been used. When at the beginning we did Rasmus’ first album, we had exactly 11 songs and we went and recorded them all.
-On this album it’s more like decisions made at the moment of work. We just enjoyed the parts of the songs in one take, and we weren’t bothered if I sang the wrong tune. These songs are a bit like shit, but in a good meaning, Lauri told about his way of working
With The Rasmus now for years in turn Lauri enjoys working on low profile.
-When we were shooting videos with The Rasmus, we were taken from the hotel with rose ways and at the place of the shooting we were given like massage. In comparison, this was kind of an amateur work, because I was making puppets for months long in the garage before I left to shoot the video at the place of the director in Sweden. But I was missing this ‘for small band’ work feeling.

Lauri: “I’m like who woke up from a coma!”

Heavy cover

Thank you to Oana/PMMP&TheRasmus Forum for pointing out this article about Lauri posted by Voice.fi.

The Rasmus’ frontman Lauri Ylönen releases at the end of March his first solo album. The singer is enthusiastic about the feeling he has for the solo career.

-Pieces started to fell into their places when I had two different things to do. I was wondering why I didn’t started a solo career already before. I’m like who woke up from a coma, Ylönen describes.

Lauri admitted that it wasn’t easy to tell to his band mates about his decision of starting a solo career.

-It was a little hard, because I didn’t knew how the guys would react. When i was decided that I do this way I told everyone through phone now that almost everyone lives in other countries, Lauri tells.

However Ylönen assures that his solo career doesn’t specifically affects The Rasmus. The band will start working on the new album during the upcoming summer.
