Lauri about breaking up of Elonkerjuu: Tähkä decided about it long ago!

Here are two articles published by MetroLive and Iltasanomat, that Lauri knew already last summer about Lauri Tähkä & Elonkerjuu band break up. Translation of the MetroLive article can be found below (IS just used the article to post the news, so it’s same). Please if you take the translation, link back our site. Thank You!

At about middle of May Lauri Tähkä ja Elonkerjuu notified on their website about the break up of the band. The bigger break and the break up decision came as a surprise also to the fans and the other members of the band. The Rasmus’ Lauri reveals that he have heard about the break up of the band already last summer.

-I though that he (Lauri Tähkä) have decided about it long ago. We met last summer and been talking together. And it came out just now, Ylönen told a few weeks ago to the reporter of MetroLive.

Ylönen has no sources about the reasons of the break out, but he believes that Tähkä will come back to the music business as a solo artist.

In Ylönen’s mind didn’t turn at all to end with The Rasmus, despite that in the fifteen years of the band there were plenty of hard months. On contrary to the band-life Lauri started his solo career and new sounds.

-Sometimes is fewer stuff that comes and I might found more inspiration in new sounds, from synthetizers and samplers, cause I can’t really play them. I’m not saying that I can play properly guitar or piano perfectly, but I have made with those seven albums.

-In a way I’ve gone through all the traditional ways of playing and ideas start to be fewer and fewer. I enjoy that I can try new equipment, about which I don’t know a shit. I might found some new sound from which come in my mind the metro and get inspiration to make a metro-songs, Lauri laughs.

Lauri Ylönen’s solo album, New World was released on 30.3

Lauri’s solo album to be released in late March

Lauri@Peninsula Press Conference

According to a recently appeared article on the Finnish Media website, Voice, Lauri’s upcoming solo album will be released some time during the last week of March.

What about the video for the first single, Heavy, Owe added on his Facebook that they are working another 3 weeks with shooting for it. We suppose it will be just a perfect video ;)

Remember, the world-wide premiere of the song will be in just 24 days at EMMA Gaala in Barona Areena, Espoo.

There is a live stream of the event starting at 20.10 (Finnish Time) on Yle Areena. So far as we know from the organizers the live stream on Yle Areena is available ONLY IN FNLAND due to copyright issues; but the video file will be available afterwards for 30 days in the archives and we hope at least that one will work :)

“Rocking with a lizard in Obbola”-Interview with Lauri

Lauri & Magnus

Big thanks to Oana for finding this article, with an interview made with Lauri on the day when they made the video for his first upcoming solo single. Translation below was made with Babylon and Google Translate.

Outside wines the snow, inside the house the people and Lauri Ylönen are in the middle of a groovy set of design and feel comfortable. The Rasmus’ singer goes solo and chose Village Road Film to make a rock video for his first single.
-We’re building a secret here, laughs Lauri.

Lauri commands a coffee and starts to tell. The premiere of the first song, Heavy is on 25th February at the Finland’s equivalent of the German Grammy Gala Awards. Until then, everything is very much in secret. Lauri has written the music and the lyrics for the album that is coming in March. The story of the video was created together with Owe Lingvall and Peter Hultman. Lauri likes to work very much with Mr. Village Road, Owe Lingvall.
-We have made two videos with him earlier and I have been pleased, we have the same taste and we like to improvise.

Lauri seems to smirk as he sits with a cinnamon bun in his hand, dressed in leather pants, black shirt with an asymmetrical neckline and with feathers in his hair.
-We have built a camp here, we can say so, we have the whole house for ourselves. I live in the apartment upstairs, it’s filled with a lot of very old stuff. When we film, we smoke and we go to our ‘shack’- that it’s like another world. We’ve hardly been outside in the past several days.

They borrowed ‘inhabitants’ from the Tropicarium, a lizard, cockroaches and also a centipede that is in the corner.
-I have named the lizard Magnus, but I do not really like him, said Lauri and urged the photographer for the picture.

The Rasmus is one of Finland’s greatest musical export of all time, and The Rasmus remains to Lauri the most important thing, but there is music that did not fit in the style of the band.
-There are so many ideas I had to put aside because they didn’t fit into The Rasmus style, but this way is fine! The music is different, more sweeping and electronic. I produce the album myself and release it through own record label, Dynasty Recordings. I do not mind to have control, Lauri says happily.

He did not believe that this would be felt again.
-Sometimes successful ties loosen the grip a little when others start to decide to do their own things, but I have taken back the initiative. It feels like starting everything from the beginning-wonderful!

Videoshoot for Lauri’s solo single Heavy

On his Facebook Owe Lingvall, (Vilage Road Video, he previously directed Justify and October&April videos fro The Rasmus) published a status update according to which he has been filming for 3 days with Lauri a new video, which is more than sure the video for his upcoming solo single, Heavy.

It is yet unknown when the video will premier, but we’re guessing it will be after EMMA Gaala, since the world premiere of the song will be held at that event.

“A return to school” -Article from 24.11.09 IltaSanomat

Paluu Kouluun 24.11.2009

Here you can find the translation of the article appeared in IltaSanomat from 24.11.2009 after the guys have had their anniversary gig in their old school, Suutarila High School in Helsinki. By clicking on the picture inserted on the left side you can see it in a bigger version. Thank you to Oana for it. Translation was made by me.

The Rasmus excited about the festive gig in their old school.
The Finnish school rarely hosts a gig for a band that has sold over one million discs.
It was yesterday when The Rasmus came back to Helsinki’s Suutarila High School to celebrate 15 years of their career.
In the same sports hall did the world-wide known band play their first gig back in time.
-It was a hard place to get on the stage, singer Lauri Ylönen told to IS about an hour after the event.
-I was excited than ever before.
He also mentioned that the crowd felt somehow “everyone adult”, because almost everyone was of thirty-something, them being their old school friends, parents and friends of the band members, also some of the buddies from the music industry.
And what’s more, there was one more familiar person in the room: Julius, 1, who saw his father for the first time on stage.
Ylönen told at the Liquid song that he was telling a story about the cover of Soundi to Julius.
-There was Angus Young on it, but the boy told “Daddy play the guitar!” How about that???
Much has changed in 15 years. During the years from the energetic teenage band The Rasmus it became an enviably professional and still energetic band. All of the members of the band now have a family. The making of the songs have also changed, and are made in the own rooms by Skype-calls and change of emails: Ylönen lives in Helsinki, and the guitarist Pauli Rantasalmi in Singapore.
-And still we are dreaming about even more. We were naïve, but in our opinion the best in the world, Rantasalmi tells.
At the school gig The Rasmus also celebrated the release of their new compilation album.
The band is in one of the most interesting situations in their career. They are making a new album at the moment, but there is no information about deals with a record company.
-Next year we will definitely publish something, Ylönen promised.
During this time we can think about memories from school of Eero Heinonen. He had been in the teacher’s room while the central school radio’s microphone was open.
-Then I said in the microphone that teaching ends for everyone for all the students. In all the classes there was a terrible noise and everyone left home, Heinonen adds.
-Of course then I had a talk with the principal.
In the Helsinki Suutarila High School there were many well-known band members grown up. Rasmus is one that is best known internationally, but the school also raised members also of TikTak and Indica.
Strong earnings in music activity do not involve only talented and gifted pupils, but also enthusiastic teachers. Before the record company career, probably the best known of these was Pekka Ruuska.
Before at the Suutarila school have played only Lauri Ylönen, Pauli Rantasalmi and Eero Heinonen. Drummer Aki Hakala followed his studies in Espoo.
Yesterday there were plenty of Lauri’s and Eero’s classmates in the audience.
-The boys played for all the intermediate classes, they remembered.
-I was surprised about that gig which was in this place. Lauri was shy most of the time. He have never sung any worse, Minttu Muranen remembers.
Lauri was in the third form a talented drummer and pianist –his energetic hustle remained still hidden on the stage.
-We’re not counting the music lessons. Started only to play if the teacher told so. Didn’t really see him at the lessons, Miia Rantakömi tells.
Although sometimes a various number of subjects/lessons went on for the sake of rock, he did well at the lessons.
-Class average mark was over 9, Minna Skogberg notes.
